apple

apple

Apple
 PIE abel- “apple.”

Apple

 1. Old English æppel “any kind of fruit
other than berries; nut; someone or
something cherished (ie. pupil or eyeball).”
 2. Old English berie “berry.”

Apple
apple of one’s eye --- 即ち、

She’s the apple of her father’s eye.

He (God) found him (Jacob) in a desert land,
 and the waste howling wilderness;
he led him about, he instructed him,
he kept him as the apple of his eye.

Apple
Apple Berry
Apple
Berry

(Old Norse)
 (Yggdrasil)
 (Iduna)
 (Bragi)
 (Loki)
 (Asgard)
 (Thiazi)
 (Jotunheim)
 (Aesir)

(Apple of perpetual youth)

 alligator apple
 kangaroo apple
egg apple (= fruit of the egg-plant)
 monkey apple
ざくろ (pomegranate)
 punic apple
 apple of paradise

Liebesapfel
 golden apple
 Italian pomodoro 「

Apple
 pōmus
Pomona is the Roman goddess of fruits and nuts.

Apple
(See dragon)
Apple

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

・Apples don’t fall too far from the tree. You
 are like your parents.

 ・apple gathering.

・apple bobbing - a game to try and catch apples
in the mouth while they float in the bucket of water.

・apple woman: who keeps a stall for selling apples,

 ・We did everything together, schoolwork,
 tree-climbing, apple-stealing, and all kinds
  of mischief-making.

 ・She borrowed the apple-scented shampoo
  for her shower.

 ・Fragrant apple flowers.

・And now the flower, and deadly fruit will come
  With *apple-time in autumn.
  (Swinburne)

apple tree

Oaks and beeches last longer
 than apples and pears.

apple

 ・a pretty apple-cheeked girl.

 ・a plump, rosy-cheeked, apple-faced young woman.

 ・That apple-shaped Head
which its hair binds close into a ball.

 ・a little apple-headed dog.

(The orb of the English Regalia is called
the golden apple.)

A goodly apple rotten at the heart.
  (Merchant of Venice, 1.3)

A rotten apple can spoil the whole barrel.

Apples and pears stairs、

apples and rice ( or apples and spice )
apples
she’s
She’ll be right, mate. She’s apples.

(Prince Ahmed’s apple)

tauftauf

on Finnegans Wake by James Joyce

tauftauf
Discovered in p3:
nor avoice from afire bellowsed mishe mishe to tauftauf thuartpeatrick not yet, though venissoon after, had a kidscad buttended a bland old isaac...

Humpty Dumpty says:
“Tauftauf? Tough, tough? --- what’s tough? James Voyce’s story is tough to hear that is always telling me in mysterious ways. German tauf is baptismal, &, as the verb stem,  baptize; hence, tauftauf probably expresses christening, christening. Reduplications represent recirculation in history, & maybe, to baptize is to make tough in the thought of Christians. I think that if I told Joyce my imagination, that the sound of German tauf is similar to that of Chinese dào (Tao), he would probably feel very happy to hear about it. Tao is ubiquitous forever.”

wielderfight

on Finnegans Wake by James Joyce

wielderfight
Discovered in p3:
Sir Tristram… had passen-core rearrived from North Armorica on this side the scraggy isthmus of Europe Minor to wielderfight his penisolate war...

Humpty Dumpty says:
“A wielder is a master, ruler, or governor.  Wielderfight is a verb which means “wield one’s arms & fight,” & German wieder "again," corresponding to French encore, gives influence to this word; thus, wielderfight means “wielde one’s arms & fight again as a master.” We readers are in a way of recirculation by Joyce who guides. dengue

dengue

Word DNA ~~~~~~~~~
WORD HISTORY
I [19th c.]
“epidemic whose symptoms include fever, headache, muscle, joint, & bone pain,  sudden cramp-like seizure, & occasionally fatal hemorrhage. Also called break-bone fever; dandy, giraffe. Mosquitoes are the vehicles of the virus.”

FORMATION
West Indies Spanish dengue, derived from Swahili phrase in Zanzibar ka dinga pepo, literally “a sudden cramp-like seizure plague”; ka is the partitive article, dinga (dyenga, denga) means “sudden cramp-like seizure,” & pepo is an “evil spirit or plague.”

fever 「熱」を伴うことと伴わないことがある (用例: There are no licensed vaccines to protect against dengue fever… The Bone Crusher Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease found in over 100 countries and territories around the world, primarily in tropical and subtropical environments... severe attack of dengue... )
Approximately 33.3% of the Earth's 6.05 billion people are at risk of dengue infection... )

~~~~~~~~ 言葉の遺伝子
 デング熱は熱帯・亜熱帯地方の伝染病で、発症すると、熱、頭痛、筋肉や関節や骨の痛み、こむらがえりのような突発的な発作があり、場合によっては、出血により死に至ることもある。
 dengue は十九世紀の西インド諸島のスペイン語からできた言葉だが、このスペイン語は東アフリカのスワヒリ語の ka dinga pepo を語源にしている。 ka は部分冠詞、 dinga は「こむらがえりのような発作」、 pepo は「悪い妖精、疫病」を指す。つまり、スワヒリ語では「悪い妖精、妖怪、魑魅魍魎、化け物」と「疫病」を同じ言葉で指すのである。
 十九世紀のキューバでは、この病気を dengue と呼んでいたが、このスペイン語は「お洒落、気取り」の意味である。デング熱にかかった人は痛くて背筋をまるめることができなくなるらしいが、はたから見ると、しゃんと背筋を伸ばして気取っているように見えたので、東アフリカから来た dinga とまぜこぜにしたらしい。英領の西インド諸島にはスペイン語のその意味合いが伝わったので、この病気は巷では dandy と呼ばれるようになった。また、首や背中をまっすぐに硬直させているので、別名で giraffe「キリン」ともいったという。
 こんなユーモラスな呼び名があるにもかかわらず、この病気は時に激しい出血を伴い、感染者を死に至らしめることがある。
 日本でこの病気が流行しているということは、温暖化が進行して、日本の気候が温帯から亜熱帯・熱帯に移行してしまったといってもいいのだろう。
~~~~~~~~ 言葉の遺伝子

  snake boots (一般的)
  serpent boots (まれ)

  snake wallet (一般的)
  serpent wallet (まれ)

Taiji Takashima quotes this philosophical formula of Johann Gottfried von Herder (1744-1803) in his book Fountain of Japanese Proverbs, which contains Japanese sayings & corresponding proverbs in English, French, German, & Chinese. Different to the 18th century when Herder lived, now is the age when people, their ideas, information, knowledge, wisdom come & go to each other over borders. If Herder were a 21st century thinker, he would say. “Proverbs were the mirror of the thinking of a nation until the 19th century, or at least the previous century, but now any adage from any nation is shared by all nations.”

Aus Scherz

Aus Scherz kann leicht Ernst werden.
--- Deutsch Sprichwort

Japan is a country of rakugo (Japanese-style comic talk show) where a horse comes out of a gourd. Germany is a country of Märchen (Fairy Tale) & philosophy where even a joke turns into seriousness. These proverbs are partly equivalent to a Japanese idiom of a truth out of a lie.

(The Snake and the Farmer)』の寓話によると、ある寒い日に、凍えて動けなくなっていた蛇を農夫が見つけ、かわいそうだと思って懐に入れて温めてやると、生気を取り戻した蛇が農夫を噛んで殺してしまう。

 英語のことわざは  ----- A thief knows a thief… もっとも二つを組み合わせて ----- A thief knows a thief as a wolf knows a wolf...

 英語では ----- Wisdom grows with age… ----- 知恵は年を重ねるにつれ大きくなっていく」と言ったり、----- Experience is the mother of wisdom…

ドイツ語では ----- Mit der Zeit wird Man klug…

  OED knapsack

Love is blind.
L’amour est aveugle.
Liebe macht blind.
L'amore è cieco.
El amor está ciego.
