Metallic Sound Senses
In Middle English, the intransitive verb appeared with the basic sense “(metallic things such as small bells, shaking coins, each-other-knocking keys or pieces of a chain (ie necklace, bracelet, etc.) make a somewhat pleasant sound; sound or ring.”
The bells jingled…
In the 16th century, the transitive verb appeared:
He jingled some change in his pocket...
Jingle bells...
In the 17th century, the noun appeared with the sense “sound when small bells ring or metallic things are knocking against each other.”
the jingle of small change in his pocket…
In the 18th century, the sense “to move or run with a jingling sound” became apparent:
I jingled down the stairs...
A carriage jingled by...
SONG SENSES

In the 17th century, the senses “to sound with alliteration; to rhyme; to play with words for the sake of sound” were made up. Also. used as a noun:

jingle は擬声語で、
中英語期に出現した。
鈴や細かい金属類がぶつかり合う音。
日本語では、
チリンチリン
チャリンチャリン
カチャカチャ
などに対応する。
OEDは、
a sound intermediate between clicking and
ringing.
「clinking と ringing の中間音」
と説明している。
当初は動詞の用法しかなかったが、
十七世紀に名詞用法ができた。
Jingle で表現される音には
「心地よさ」が含意されている
といってもよいだろう。
十七世紀には、
「韻文を作る、詩を書く、
言葉遊びをする」
といった意味が作られた。
Whene'er my Muse does on me glance,
I jingle at her.

ミューズに目をかけてもらうたび、

この動詞はすぐに名詞化して
「歌、詩、歌詞」といった意味になった。
二十世紀にラジオやテレビが

jingle というようになった。
外来語はジングルだが、
歌の歌詞でしか
使われていないかもしれない。
