The Morning Finger Writes

What is done cannot be undone, Lady Macbeth says to her husband after the assassination of King Duncan. Time never stops for Macbeth or for us. As Time is flying away, one’s life is going on. Your past scenario can’t be rewritten. An old saying “the morning finger writes” is derived from Edward FitzGerald’s translation of Omar Khayyám”s Rubaiyat, that is similar to the Shakespearian saying.

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.”
