A Woman is a Religion

What is a woman for her man? The first man in the Garden of Eden says that she is “bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh.” What is a man’s love of his woman? It seems that a man tries to understand, help, & protect her, & he wants not only her kindness, understanding, encouragement, but also, her domination, seeing as if she is a goddess he worships. There was once a French journalist who considered love to be a kind of faith, & whose name was Emile de Girardin (1802-81). He says:

A woman whom we truly love is a religion.

男にとって女とは何か。エデンの園の最初の男は女を「我が骨の骨、我が肉の肉」と言っている。女に対する男の愛とは何か。男は女を理解し、助け、守ろうとする一方で、崇拝する女神ででもあるかのにように見なして、女の優しさや理解や応援ばかりでなく、支配をも望んでいるようである。かつて愛情は信仰の一種だと考えたフランスのジャーナリストがいた。名はエミール・ドゥ・ジラルダンである。彼は言っている。

心から愛する女性はひとつの宗教なのである。
