月夜に釜を抜かれる
--- 上方・江戸いろはかるた
The cauldron to boil rice has been stolen under the moonlight. This proverb teaches that carelessness leads to a mistake. In the US, there is a pet phrase of ball game players, similar in the sense to the Japanese proverb, Keep your eye on the ball! The Japanese also say, Carelessness is a great enemy. In a construction site, a slogan like this is found, that reads literally: Carefulness in a second, injury for a lifelong time, that means “Be careful each & every second if you don’t want to take an incurable injury.” On the other hand, in the West, people have the positive thinking in the reverse way, saying Careful attention can accomplish anything.
