Flowers in nature are more beautiful than philosophy told by books… A lot of poets feel so. Walt Whitman (1819-92), known as the father of free verse, is such a poet. too. However, he was not a poet who wrote his poems depending on only his intuition. Leaves of grass, his major work, was expanded & revised several times until his death, since the first publication in 1855. However, feeling for the poet may have been more important than thinking. Let’s read a line in Song of Myself in Leaves of Grass.
A morning-glory at my window satisfies me more than the metaphysics of books.
