It is of interest to note that Carl Sagan (1934-96), US astronomer & SF novelist, has been reported to have noted below:

It is of interest to note that while some dolphins are reported to have learned English --- up to fifty words used in correct context --- no human being has been reported to have learned dolphinese.
正しい文脈で使用された五十語程度までの英語を習得したイルカがいると報告されている一方で、イルカ語を習得した人間の報告が皆無だと書き留めておくことは、興味からである。
