究極的には印欧祖語 sal- 「塩」から。「ソーセージ」は原義的にいって「塩漬け」の肉
であり、ゲルマン祖語の「塩」から、ラテン地帯を経由して英語になった。

　拡大義は味よりも見た目から、「ソーセージ状のもの、ソーセージから連想できるもの」を指すようになった。
