gung ho

gung ho

忠勇無双の、熱血の。
中国語 (北京語) の "中国工業合作社" の
略語 "工合" からで、原義は「共に働く」こと。
一九四二年、米海兵隊のカールソン少佐が、
中国共産党の一体感に感銘を受け、この言葉を
スローガンとして採用し、英語化した。

The term gung ho entered English usage
in 1942 after an article was published
in the popular American paper
the Saturday Evening Post. The article reported
that US Major Evans Carlson used gung ho
as a motto to inspire his marines,
known as Carlson's Raiders, in the war
against the Japanese.

gung ho という語句は一九四二年に、米大衆紙
『サタデーイブニングポスト』の記事になって、
英語の語彙に借入された。その記事が報じたのは。
米海兵隊のエヴァンス・カールスン少佐が

「カールスンの突撃軍団」こと、自らの部隊の
志気高揚の標語にしていたということである。
