Poetry is a Science

An unhappy poet Louise Colet met Gustave Flaubert in a Romantic 19th century Paris. She inspired her lover to create Madame Bovary. He wrote many letters to her during writing the novel. In one of them, the realist told her about poetry:

Poetry is as exact a science as geometry.
詩歌は幾何学同様に厳密な科学の一種なのです。
