ドシン、ズドン、ゴツン、ドッキンドッキン・・・
これらの音は英語話者の耳には
　thump
と聞こえる。この単語はもともと擬声語であり、
動詞や名詞などに転用された。

　My tire was thumping.

　タイヤがゴツっとぶつかった。

北欧の言語に同系語がある。

　dumpa (Icel. v. ) = thump.
　dumpa (Swed. v.) = thump.

〜ing が付くと、英国の口語では、
ある種のインパクトを示す単語になる。

記録に残っているものでは、十八世紀頃から、
心臓の鼓動「ドキドキ or バクバク」などを
指すようになった。
