Arrival
What is the beginning? What is the end? Which is the front? & the back? What is your memory? What is time? We are randomly traveling in our memory. Those who remember necessary things when necessary may live smart. What do you ask I say about? A message from the Heptapod, the extraterritorial intelligent, seven-limbed, life form of Arrival, that is the 2016 film. They suddenly appear at the 12 locations on Earth. An omniscient linguist, Dr Louise Banks, is on her way to try & communicate with the two messengers from the other planet, who have arrived in Montana, while the world gets into panic. The two Heptapods, nicknamed Abbott & Costello by Louise & Dr Ian Donnelly, finally offer the earthling a weapon. She asks Costello what it is. He says “Louise has weapon.” One day many years after they have left the Earth, she asks Ian, her husband then:

始まりとは何か? 終わりとは何か? 前とはどっちか? 後ろとは? 記憶とは何か? 時間とは何か? 我々は記憶の中を気まぐれに旅している。必要なことを必要なときに思い出す人はスマートに生きていける。何を言っているのかとお尋ねか? ニ〇一六年の映画『メッセージ』に出て来る七本の手足をもった地球外知的生命体ヘプタポッドからのメッセージについてだ。彼らは地球上の十二箇所に突如として出現する。全知なる言語学者ルイーズ・バンクス博士は、世界がパニックにおちいっている最中、モンタナについた別の惑星から来たヘプタポッドと、自分のやり方でコミュニケーションをはかろうとする。ルイーズとイアン・ドネリー博士によってアボットとコステロとあだ名された二名のヘプタポッドは、地球人類に武器を与えると申し出る。ルイーズは武器とは何かと尋ねると、コステロは「ルイーズは武器を持っている」と答える。彼らが地球を去って、何年もすぎた頃のある日、ルイーズが夫となったイアンに尋ねる。
