In the 18th century, tea-time appeared in the English vocabulary which was a simple compound made with tea & time. 

SENSES & USAGE

TIME TO HAVE A MEAL

・ the time to have a meal of bread, scones & jam or butter, sandwiches, etc. in the late afternoon or early evening in the UK, Ireland, & some commonwealth countries that is called tea. Both the daily meal & entertainment for guests are called tea in British English.

TIME TO REST WITH TEA

・an interval to take tea (or other drink) and/or snacks at the workplace; a tea break:

The American have coffee times. The British have tea times…

英国、アイルランド、一部の

コモンウェルスの国々では、

tea は午後、あるいは、

夕方にとる食事を指す。

ホテルなどでお客様を

おもてなしする場合も

tea あるいは  afternoon tea 

などということがある。

また、日本でもよくあるような、

職場でお茶を淹れて

休憩することも

「お茶の時間」

と呼び、午前十一時頃と

午後四時頃に休憩する

ことが多い。
