Inspiration & Perspiration

Sweat is sometimes called perspiration in English that is consider a symbol of hard work. Thomas Alva Edison, US inventor & entrepreneur, who experienced too many trial-and-error experiments in process of creation of his devices, finally found out a formula defining one’s talent. He stated on a talented person c. 1903, when he was around 56 years old:

Genius is one per cent inspiration, ninety-nine per cent perspiration.

懸命な仕事の象徴と捉えられる汗は、英語ではしばしば perspiration という。アメリカの発明家・起業家であり、創造の過程で試行錯誤する実験を数多く経験したトマス・アルヴァ・エジソンは、人の才能を定義する一つの公式を導き出した。一九〇三年頃、エジソンは五十六歳くらいであったが、天才について言及した。
