The Lilly
This is a poem created by William Blake for his self-printed book The Songs of Experience, published in 1794:
The modest rose puts forth a thorn:
The humble sheep, a threatening horn:
While the Lilly white, shall in love delight,
Nor a thorn nor a threat stain her beauty bright.
おとなしい薔薇は棘を出す。
慎ましい羊は、脅しの角を出す。
なのに白い百合には、愛の喜びのうち、
美の輝きをけがす棘も脅しもありはしない。
