Rubaiyat XIII, by Omar Khayyam, medieval Persian poet, mathematician & astronomer, is a stanza, which has a famous line: Take the cash and let the credit go! This saying means “Enjoy today, don’t care about the future (especially the afterlife!) Read these 4 lines translated into English by Edward FitzGerald, 1897 (4th ed.):
Some for the Glories of This World; and some
Sigh for the Prophet’s Paradise to come;
Ah, take the Cash, and let the Credit go,
Nor heed the rumble of a distant Drum!
