No Pain, No Gain


Sages say “no pain, no gain.” Pearls or precious things cannot be easily found in any field without effort. In the prologue of All for Love (1678), a play by John Dryden, there is a similar viewpoint written of this subject in other words:
Errors, like straws, upon the surface flow;
He who would search for pearls, must dive below.
間違いは藁のように表層に流れている。
真珠を探そうとする者は深く潜らねばならない。
