Before entering the literary career, Isak Dinesen (1885-1962), in Kenya, experienced a divorce from her unfaithful Swedish husband Baron Bror von Blixen-Finecke in 1925, who is said to have caused her syphilis, & a loss of her English love Denys Finch Hatton by the crash of his biplane in 1931, & moreover, the failure of her coffee plantation by the aftermath of the Great Depression & by becoming clear that the soil was not suitable for coffee growing at the same year. She left Kenya & came back to her homeland Denmark. It is said that she was suffering from syphilis through her lifetime, however, she was getting the international literary fame step by step. Hard work, crying, & going to see the sea may have been the author's consolations. She once said:
The cure for anything is salt water -- sweat, tears, or the sea.
文学に進む前のイサク・ディーネセンは、一九二五年ケニアで、彼女に梅毒をうつしたとされる不実なスウェーデン人の夫ブロール・フォン・ブリクセン=フリケ男爵との離婚を、一九三一年には複葉機の事故でイギリス人の恋人デニス・フィンチ・ハットンとの死別を、更に同じ年には、大恐慌のあおりと、土壌がコーヒー栽培にむかないと判明したことによってコーヒーのプランテーションの破綻を経験した。ディーネセンはケニアを去り、故郷のデンマークに帰った。生涯を通して梅毒に苦しめられたといわれているが、それでも国際的な文学的名声を着実に得ていった。仕事に精を出すことや泣くことや海を見に出かけることが作家の慰めだったのかもしれない。ディーネセンは書き残している。
