Destiny or One's Own Choice

Race, environment, & era build a man, said the 19th-century French philosopher Hippolyte Taine. About 300 years before Hippolyte Taine, the English poet William Shakespeare thought that no one knows essentially that life runs with destiny or with one’s own choice. Macbeth seems to be under control of the 3 witches & his wife. And his plan seems someone else’s business in his aside (act 1 - scene 7):
Macbeth
If it were done when ‘tis done, then ‘twere well
It were done quickly.
為されるときに為されたとして、それでうまくいくなら、
手際よく為されることだ。
(ウィリアム・シェークスピア)
