Nature's Great Masterpiece

John Donne (1572-1631), English metaphysical poet, had never explored the broad expanse of ocean & had not seen the whale shark swimming there at leisure. He kept staying in his study, thinking, & creating poems. One day, he wrote a passage to praise the elephant:

Nature's great masterpiece, an elephant,
The only harmless great thing...
自然の大いなる傑作、象、
唯一害のない大物。
