Muso is a slang term born in Australia in 1967, which refers to a musician, especially a classical one. Mus- is an abbreviation for musician & -o is a suffix that makes a humorous ( sometimes derogatory ) colloquial expression functioning -er or -or:

　commo = communist
　garbo = garbage collector
　journo = journalist
　lezzo = lesbian
　smoko = smoker
　speedo = speedmeter
　vego = vegetarian
　wino = alchoholic (especially, cheap wine drinker)

　In the UK, first recorded in 1977, it also means a "music enthusiast."

Muso (ミューゾウ) は、一九六七年にオーストラリアで生まれた俗語であり、ミュージシャン、特にクラシックの演奏家のことを指す。

　Mus- は musician の略語であり、接尾辞 -o は -er あるいは -or の働きをする滑稽な (時に蔑視的な) 口語的表現を作る接尾辞である。
　英国での初出は一九七七年で「音楽愛好家、音楽バカ」の意味でもある。
