Ananse

アナンシー。
アカン語で「蜘蛛」
　(ニジェール・コンゴ語族の言語)
彼らの神話のキャラクターで、
人に悪戯するのが好きなのだという。
アフリカの人々が奴隷としてカリブ海の島々に
移送されたのに伴い、アナンシーも
大西洋を渡って、新世界に上陸した。
綴りや発音は多種多様である。

　晩には「ナンシー」(蜘蛛のアナンシー) の民話に
　耳を傾けていた。

カリブ海のアフリカ系の住民の間には、
蜘蛛を見ると金運が上がるという迷信があり、
これを信じている人々は
決して蜘蛛を殺さないのだという。
　「ナンシーの話 (Nancy story)」は、
一般名詞化して「民話、作り話、嘘」の
意味になっている。

　Ananse
　[18th c., from Akan "spider" that belongs to the Niger-Congo
　 language family. This word has various spellings
　and pronunciations (Anancy, Nancy, etc..)]
　spider god, in Akan mythology; subsequently,
　playing a role in numerous folk tales
　in the West Indies, who is known as a trickster.
